The Kylmäluoma Hiking Area is located in the northeastern corner of Taivalkoski, by Highway 5, 45 km south of Kuusamo towards Kajaani. From the centre of Taivalkoski, the distance along Jokijärventie (road 8400) to the area is about 50 km. The nearest airport is located in Kuusamo and the nearest railway station in Kajaani.
