The Arctic Circle Hiking Area is located approx. 25 km north of the city of Rovaniemi along Road 4 (E75). The main starting points of the trails can be found close to the road in Vaattunkiköngäs and Vikaköngäs. Makialampi parking area at Vaattunkiköngäs junction is also a possible starting point.

By rail and air
The nearest railway station is located in Rovaniemi city centre, from where the distance to the Arctic Circle Hiking Area is approx. 25 km. The nearest airport is Rovaniemi Airport, from where the distance to the Arctic Circle Hiking Area is approx. 19 km. For train departures, check VR’s website (vr.fi).

By bus
There are several daily bus departures from Rovaniemi to Sodankylä and Kemijärvi. The buses run along Road 4. The number of departures may vary depending on the season, check Matkahuolto’s timetable search (matkahuolto.fi).

• There is a bus stop at Vikajärvi, from which the distance to Vikaköngäs starting point is around 200 metres.
• There are bus stops on Road 4 (Lehtikumpu I when arriving from Rovaniemi direction and Lehtikumpu L from Kemijärvi or Sodankylä direction) at around 900 metres from Makialampi parking area. Vaattunkikönkääntie gravel road to Vaattunkiköngäs starting point can be found next to Makialampi parking area, from which the walking distance to Vaattunkiköngäs is approx. 2.3 km.
