The Päijätsalo observation tower in Päijänne National Park is closed until further notice due to rot damage
04/02/2025Significant rot damage has been detected in the load-bearing structures of the Päijätsalo observation tower, and the tower must be closed indefinitely. The damage was discovered during an annual inspection by the Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland. The observation tower is located in the northeastern part of Päijänne National Park on the Päijätsalo peninsula.
After the closure of the observation tower, there is still a dry toilet, a campfire site, and a woodshed available for hikers at Pyydysniemi on the Päijätsalo nature trail. Despite the closure of the tower, the nature trail can still be walked normally. The nature trail is six kilometers long.
